Met dit laatste blog,

dat moet dan ook chronologisch gezien het laatste zijn,

ga ik nu dan maar eens eindigen...

Het is mooi geweest !

Over de 1e 100.000 page-views en er zullen nog vele volgen.

In 2005 ben ik begonnen met een D.V.M.A.website*

met terugwerkende kracht naar 1997 ,

vele avonturen/verhalen...

(*zit nagenoeg helemaal vol).

Ik heb de Dutch Vintage Motorcycle Association naam bedacht,

deze D.V.M.A opgericht door samenvoeging van

twee motorrijders groepjes rondom Utrecht,

het D.V.M.A. Logo gemaakt.

De publiciteit gehaald in de diverse (BeNeLuX) Media...

Drie maal op rij 2007, 2008, 2009,

The Razorblade Vintage Motorcycle Challenge

georganiseerd.

Het "BierBlik" - werpen uitgevonden...en zo meer

Vervolgens nog zo'n 180 verhalen op dit D.V.M.A-weblog...

en diverse filmpjes op het D.V.M.A YouTube Channel

De D.V.M.A staat internationaal op de (internet)kaart.

Ik weet nu hoe de hazen daar lopen...

Kortom de D.V.M.A is op "de rit"...

en breidt uit als konijnen...en een poes.

Ik ga voortaan mijn energie gebruiken,

om mijn VICTRACE archief ten toon te spreiden,

en er bij leven en welzijn nog iets mee doen,

o.m. via mijn YouTube Victrace Channel

en ook op mijn nieuw VICTRACE weblog .

Dat is hele andere koek...

They've been out of production for around 70 years, but if Jake Robbins gets sufficient interest they're gonna be available again.

But just how much are they likely to cost, Jake?

"That's difficult to say for certain.

But I'd estimate around £1500-£1800, complete and ready to fit.

Yes, that sounds a lot, but these will be made in exactly the same way they were made by Triumph with all new castings and the correct tapered tubing.

I'm looking for around half a dozen orders to get it started and make the project viable."

Twee mannen zitten op een motor. De ene heeft het koud, en vraagt wat hij daar aan kan doen. De andere motorrijder weet wel een oplossing: "Keer je jas om, dan zit je kraag wat hoger". De man doet dat en het heeft resultaat. Maar even later botsen de mannen op een tractor. Door de klap raken ze allebei buiten westen.

De boer in de tractor is ongedeerd en belt snel een ambulance. Als de ambulance arriveert vraagt een van de broeders: "Leven ze nog?"

"Nou", zegt de boer. Die ene die redt het wel, maar van die ander zat zijn hoofd verkeerd om. Toen ik het net omdraaide ging hij dood.

The first of december 2009 I got a message about the

release of a videofilm Old Indians Never Ever Die 2.

The 2nd december 2009 I wrote a blog about it and

I've worked immediately on that blog till late night.

I 've embedded the show-reel promo-video also.

Ok so Far so Good...

Next morning I friendly asked if it was possible to send me a copy.

See it as an amount of the coverage

MORGAN "Matchless" TRICYCLE

De Morgan Motor Company is een Engelse autofabriek,
gevestigd in Malvern in Worcestershire.
De firma is in 1910 opgericht door H.F.S. Morgan (1881-1959).
Zijn zoon Peter Morgan leidde het bedrijf tot zijn dood in 2003.
Kleinzoon Charles Morgan leidt het bedrijf vanaf 1999.

Geschiedenis:

Morgan is bekend om het feit dat de auto's die nu worden gefabriceerd

eigenlijk op dezelfde manier worden gebouwd als de auto's die al voor

deTweede Wereldoorlog werden geproduceerd:

een stalen chassis met een houten frame, een starre achteras

en een metalen carrosserie.

De auto's (circa 500 auto's per jaar) worden nog steeds

grotendeels met de hand vervaardigd door circa 130 medewerkers.

In het begin maakte Morgan driewielers.

Die werden populair omdat ze voor de Engelse belasting

als motorfiets werden belast.

De eerste vierwieler uit 1936 heette 4/4: vier wielen en

een 4 cilinder motor van Ford .

Datzelfde model wordt dus eigenlijk nog steeds gebouwd en

het is daarmee dan ook de langst geproduceerde auto ter wereld.

Morgan heeft de gebruikte motoren nooit zelf geproduceerd,

er werd gebruikgemaakt van motoren van diverse fabrieken.

De driewielers maakten in de regel gebruik van een V-twin motor van JAP.

Ook Matchless en Anzani motoren werden wel eens gebruikt.

De vier cilinders werden geleverd door onder meer Ford,

Standard Motors, Triumph en Rover.

Een belangrijke ontwikkeling was de Plus 8,

een Morgan met de Rover 3,5 liter V8 motor.

De huidige opvolger, de Aero 8, is voorzien van een V8 motor van BMW.

Alle Morgans waren cabriolets en ze zijn in verschillende

groottes leverbaar (langer, met onder meer 4 zitplaatsen) en breder.

Ook is een aluminium carrosserie in plaats van

de standaard stalen versie leverbaar.

Op 16 september l.l. was Ray "Mr. Ajs/Matchless International" Pollard,

onze Canadese Guestwriter, even terug , in het Groenekanse land

om ons met een kort bezoek, meet and greet, te vereren.

In de sfeervol ingerichte Dorpsbistro "Naast de Buren" werd

bijgepraat onder het genot van een heerlijk hap en een drankje.

(Ook in 2005 werd Ray door de Groenekan Boys verwelkomd)

Hij was immers dit jaar 28 :) jaar geworden

heeft nu toch besloten maar

geen* motor meer te rijden.

*Althans in Guelph, Canada, rijdt hij

nog wel een scramble-rondje om zijn huis.

Piet-Hein werd verrast met een
prachtige Morgan Tricycle model.

1939 Triumph 5T Speed Twin

This is my 1939 Triumph Speed Twin, “rustored” by John Whitby.
I acquired this machine from the estate of Bernie Nicholson,
of Nicholson Bros. Motorcycle fame.
Bernie is famous for his seven editions of Modern Motorcycle Mechanics,
the bible for any British ‘cycle enthusiast.

Forward momentum ends,

When the Triumph came home it was set up as a hill climb machine.
Bernie had a set of megaphones on the bike, but for some reason he’d removed the girder front end. I began a search for the correct girder and was finally able to locate a 1940 girder fork, which has the helper, or check springs,
on the side. While technically incorrect for the 1939 machine,
it was better than nothing!
My own motorcycle accident put this project to the side.
But when John offered to put the bike together I didn’t hesitate.
This motorcycle wears all of its original patina.
John painted and distressed the fork, headlight and front fender.
The mufflers also were ‘beaten’ to give them a weathered look.
It took very little to persuade the Triumph to run.
It likes to smoke a bit, but I think
we’ll leave it as is for a while longer.

Sunken Triumphs at the bottom of the sea!

Een gezonken wrak in de zeebodem, is voor ons allen dan een herinnering in verband met een trieste tragedie is voor de liefhebbers van scuba-duikers, een prachtige gelegenheid voor exploratie. Maar voor ons motorrijders? Wel een zeer interessant verhaal, als de gezonken lading, een lading van motorfietsen is ontworpen om te voldoen aan de troepen wachten in de strijd. Maar die motorfietsen zijn nooit aangekomen en zijn nu aan boord van het gezonken Thistlegorm in de Rode Zee, niet ver van het bekende vakantieoord Sharm el Sheikh, op slechts 10 meter diep.

Game uit Glasgow mei 1941, de Thistlegorm was een gewapende vrachtschip beladen met benodigdheden en de apparatuur voor het Britse Achtste Leger die in de oorlog in Afrika. Maar toen ze de Straat van Suez bereikt, wachtend op de landengte passeren, werd onderschept door de Duitse Heinkel He-111 bommenwerpers, op de avond van 5 oktober '41 het centrum met twee bommen, splitsen in twee delen, waarvan het einde bepaald.

Het schip was geladen, alsmede onderdelen, radio's en kleding voor de troepen, met name in het Bedford vrachtwagens die dump fietsen werden geproduceerd door de grote Britse: Triumph 3HW, M20 BSA, Norton en Matchless G3L 16H, die bieden van het Britse leger voor een totaal van 400 duizend motorfietsen, nuttige snelkoppelingen tussen afdelingen, alsmede de levering van de verzendingen.

Triumph 3HW is niets anders dan Tiger 350 eencilinder ventiel.Er waren op dat schip de nieuwe 3TW (waarbij T staat voor Triumph en W is voor Oorlogsdocumentatie), omdat die nooit zal worden uitgebracht in november 1940 werden vernietigd in een bombardement van de fabriek in Coventry.

Vandaag de dag, zijn die motorfietsen nog steeds op de bodem van de Rode Zee, en zijn uitgegroeid tot de belangrijkste attractie voor duikers. Het wrak is in ernstig gevaar als gevolg van overmatige bezoeken elk jaar ontvangt duizenden duikers als luchtbellen voor de continue verwijdering ze zijn net als de twee takken verwijderd door twee gepantserde Rolls Royce. Momenteel is de Egyptische regering overweegt de sluiting van de site om het sportduiken minste voor een bepaalde periode voor de stabilisatie van het wrak zelf mogelijk te maken.

A Triumph Speed Bobber 1947

This is the latest creation from a custom shop in Japan called Deluxie Customs. They are one of the few Japanese shops that don't use the Yamaha SR400 for their bike projects. They usually use Triumphs and Harley's for their builds, like this spectacular 1947 Triumph 'Speed Bobber'. It has a 1947 vintage frame and 650 engine, with a 750 front end, and the rear wheel has a 16 inch Harley rim on it.

Mooneyes has helped with the overall vintage bobber look by supplying the seat, rear dish pistons and many other parts. To see more from the guys at Deluxie visit their custom gallery.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (Blenheim Palace,

Woodstock, 30 november 1874 – London 24 januari 1965)

was de Brits Staatsman die als premier van 1939 tot 1945 Hitler weerstond en daarmee een beslissende rol in diens ondergang en de gealliëerde winst heeft gespeeld. Het lukte hem de Britse oorlogsinspanning op peil te krijgen en de VS tot steun daarbij te bewegen. Geen enkele Britse premier is ooit zo populair geweest als Churchill.

Churchill was een van de bekendste staatslieden van de 20e eeuw, was ook betrokken bij de Eerste Wereldoorlog en was enkele malen minister van Marine. Hij was tevens schrijver en ontving in 1953 de Nobelprijs vooir de literatuur voor zijn geschiedenis van de Tweede Werteldoorlog. Als één van de weinige Europeanen was hij Amerikaans ere-staatsburger.

Motorcycles of Hollywood

The cycle's celluloid history dates back to the silent era.

From Edgar Dearing's familiar role as a motorcycle cop/

foil in Laurel and Hardy shorts to

Gael Garcia Bernal as a road-tripping Che Guevara in The Motorcycle Dairies and beyond, screen bikes are as iconic as the characters who ride them. During a discussion of classic cycle movie moments over a beer after a long weekend ride a while back, one bike kept reappearing in the conversation with disproportionate frequency. Of course, Harley-Davidson, right? Nope. It is Triumph by a large margin. No less an authority than the Internet Movie Cars Database catalogs seven pages of entries for the British marque in films, while Harley rates a modest two pages.

Memorably, there was the quintessence of two-wheeled cool Steve McQueen

(doubled by Bud Ekins),

racing from a German POW camp in

The Great Escape on a '61 Triumph TR6 Trophy Bird

disguised as a wartime BMW.

There was Clint Eastwood atop another

Triumph TR6 in Coogan's Bluff.

An Officer and a Gentleman starred

a Bonneville 750 T140E and, um, Richard Gere.

All fine examples, but chiefly there is the hellfire leather paradigm,

the alpha and omega of two-wheeled rebellion,

Marlon Brando and his Triumph Thunderbird 650 in The Wild One. This legendary pairing is more than mere Hollywood verisimilitude; Brando rode his own personal Triumph in the film and likewise, most of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club rode Triumphs as well.

The Wild One

sits atop many best biker-film lists like the trophy strapped

to Brando's handlebars in the movie.

Oscar-winner Walton Goggins, who has a role alongside Anthony Hopkins in The World's Fastest Indian, remembered the impact the film had on him, “When I saw Marlon Brando on that Triumph it made me think of one word: freedom. That is what we all desire, freedom. It is the person that takes the time to be quiet, alone with his thoughts, that has the most to give back to the world. He gave me the impression of doing that on the back of a Triumph. We should all be that bold.” Certainly, those sentiments have been echoed thousands of times and spurred countless new riders over the years.

The ladies aren't left out of the clubhouse either.

As you are sure to remember,

Pam Anderson straddled, among other things,

a Triumph Thunderbird in Barb Wire.

An eye-popping Ann-Margret

perched herself atop

a Triumph Tiger T100 in The Swinger and

Kate Hudson had something to do with an '03 Bonneville and Matthew McConaughey in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Off screen, McConaughey is a confirmed motorcycle enthusiast and regularly fires up his Triumph Thunderbird Sport.

Of the modern Hollywood breed, Tom Cruise is perhaps the highest wattage megastar closely associated with motorcycles in general and with Triumph specifically. While he flirted with a Kawasaki Ninja 900 in Top Gun,

Cruise rode a Triumph Speed Triple in Mission: Impossible II.

In M:i:III he reprises the Ethan Hunt role, this time co-starring with a McQueen-esque riff on the new Triumph Scrambler 900. The movie Scrambler drips with retro-groove from its knobby-tired spoke wheels and front fender license plate frame to its upswept peashooter exhausts. It's a fence jumping Nazi-dodger to be sure.

Cruise is no dilettante when it comes to bikes. The actor studied with the renowned Keith Code at the racer's wheelie school. Code himself rates Cruise as a near-pro level motorcycle stuntman and states, “He's a learning machine. You rarely have to tell him twice, in fact, he got to balance point and gear changes on the Speed Triples at our On One Wheel school sooner than anyone I've ever seen, and stand-up wheelies weren't long after that. On top of that, he really likes to ride.” Cruise is a devoted student of the action-hero disciplines. Always loathe to use a stunt double, he has said that he seeks competence at rock-climbing and flying in addition to his evident auto and cycle skills. Still, no amount of expertise will prevent the occasional mishap, even if you're an action hero.

A few years ago, Cruise was tooling through Beverly Hills on his turbocharged Ducati when he skidded on a patch of oil and dumped his bike. No matter, Cruise got off the pavement, righted his bike, signed a few autographs and took off without assistance.
Perhaps most famously, Cruise arrived at the War of the Worlds premiere with bride-to-be Katie Holmes on the back of his Honda Rune cruiser. The duo was decked out in matching biker-chic: jeans, black T-shirts, black boots, leather jackets, and shades.

Dean of '50s cool for the '70s generation, Happy Days' “Fonzie” got around his home turf of Milwaukee on a Triumph 500 Twin in the show's later years. While the good folks down the road at Harley-Davidson would be quick to point out that Fonzie became a Triumph man after he jumped the shark, the Fonz did make the switch to Triumph from his custom Harley.

According to Christopher Wagner, President of Royal Promotions and Placement, a leading motion picture and television product placement agency, Hollywood has followed in Arthur Fonzarelli's boot steps. He notes that Triumph is the “motorcycle of choice” in Tinsel Town.

With the pending release of Mission: Impossible III, pairing Tom Cruise with the retro-cool Scrambler 900, Triumph looks to add another iconic screen image to its glittering Hollywood résumé.Hinckley Triumphs:

VELOCETTE MSS 500 cc 1938

- Velocette 'M' series -

In 1933, the company decided to introduce a new line of overhead valve (OHV) machines, in order to cut production costs and make a more affordable motorcycle. The K series was expensive to produce, requiring selective hand assembly of the shaft-and-bevel camshaft drive; it was determined that a simpler OHV design would be quicker to build and require less skilled labour to assemble. The first of these new machines was the MOV, using a 250 cc engine of 'square' dimensions (68 mm bore x 68 mm stroke). It was an immediate sales success, having lively performance for the time (78 mph), and proved a reliable machine with excellent road manners. From this machine, by lengthening the stroke of the crankshaft, the Velocette Mac 350 cc was introduced in 1934. It proved even more popular than the MOV, and became a real money spinner for the company, bringing much needed capital into the firm. In 1935 an entirely new machine was introduced, based on the two previous OHV models, the Velocette MSS of 500 cc.

1948 Triumph Speed Twin "Pretty Boy I"

It was not an auspicious beginning for a motorcycle that would go on to make history. The brand-new 1948 Triumph 5T Speed Twin sat forlornly in the corner of a dealership, looking quite crispy following an electrical fire. The unlucky buyer got a replacement machine under warranty and the dealer, Bob SirKegian Sr., got a project bike. With ace shop foreman Fred Ford spinning the wrenches, the burned-out 5T was transformed into a hot little bob-job, a fitting conveyance for SirKegian, who once wheeled fearsome factory board-trackers for Indian, Harley, and Excelsior, and was in the process of building up the largest Triumph dealership west of the Mississippi.

Son Bobby Jr. was a natural on two wheels, riding in the dirt from age 6. In the early 1950s after father and son had spectated at one of the many dragstrips then popping up all over Southern California, 12-year-old Bobby decided he wanted to give this newfangled quarter-mile sprinting a try. What better bike than his old man's hotted-up 5T? The elder SirKegian took some convincing as his bob-job was so well turned out it was nicknamed "Pretty Boy," but soon he was fully into the endeavor, even balancing the bike from behind at the start line because he son was still too small to plant his feet flat on the ground!

Success was almost immediate for Bobby, capitalizing on his good reflexes and superior power-to-weight ratio. The bike did its part, too, thanks to ported-and-polished cylinder heads, a twin-carb/remote-float set-up, special crankshaft, high-compression 12:1 pistons (stock was 8.5:1!), and open-ended 4-inch megaphone exhausts. In 1953, running at the first-ever NHRA-sanctioned drag race in Pomona, SirKegian took the win. The kid was a national champion at age 13! He repeated the feat in '54. Running on gas, the 500cc Triumph posted a best trap speed of 110.40mph. It would be joined by two Triumph 650s, Pretty Boys II and III -- one running on gas, the other on fuel. Young Bobby and his bikes were featured in mainstream publications and even made it onto the nationally syndicated television show "You Asked For It."

Bobby's interests took him away from drag racing and to the rough-and-tumble of flat-track competition. He was good enough to rank in the AMA's national top 10, gunning BSA Gold Stars everywhere from the Ascot half-mile to the Daytona Beach course, but he always kept the Triumph drag bikes. In 2002, after years in storage, Pretty Boy I was treated to a full mechanical and cosmetic restoration by SirKegian. Since then, it has spent most of its time on display at the NHRA Museum in Pomona, not far from the spot where it first roared in the history books 57 years ago.

It was a certainly a milestone for motorcycling in 1938 when Triumph's Ed Turner unveiled his newly designed 500cc Speed Twin, an event further enhanced by announcement of the sportier version Tiger 100 one year later. Until Turner went to Triumph in 1936 it was perceived as quite a staid company, its machines less well regarded than those from Ariel, BSA, or the AJS, Matchless, and Sunbeam brands from AMC. Ariel had bought the ailing Triumph motorcycle brand in 1936 from the automobile company of the same name but, with the arrival of Turner's superbly styled vertical twins, the status quo was rapidly changing and Triumph had difficulty meeting demand. Physically identical to the Speed Twin touring model the Tiger100 was finished in silver sheen paintwork, similar to its Tiger 70/80/90 siblings, which were all sporty singles. The Tiger 100, though, incorporated a number of exclusive fitments, most noticeably the easily detachable megaphone type mufflers, and a finned front brake drum. Likewise, the iron cylinder was attached by means of an 8-stud fixing, and could be ordered with a bronze cylinder head. Given its performance advantage [even in stock spec] over contemporary singles, Turner's new design was the Corvette or Mustang of its day!

Offered in original condition the rare 1940 Tiger 100 is unusual on several counts, primarily because it was specially built by the factory, coupled with the fact it is a 1940 model, by when Britain had been at war for several months. The bike is accompanied by a clutch of 1940 correspondence between the Coventry factory and its first owner, the renowned Indiana racer Rody Rodenberg. In a letter dated March 30th the Export Department advised receipt of the order and on May 18th they confirm "the special Tiger 100 model" had been dispatched by boat. Later, and aware that the bike had safely arrived, the Export Dept – with typical British understatement – regretted that Rody's request for a spare pair of hand-made pistons "...could not be promised very promptly, owing to reduced facilities for manufacturing special parts at the present time!" The letters are remarkable for at least three reasons: i) the fact Triumph was still able to build a non-military machine, ii) that letters to and from USA were received, and iii) the machine safely survived its Atlantic crossing! (In fact, shortly after the last of these letters, Triumph's Coventry plant was destroyed in a bombing raid, eventually replaced by the famous green-field site at nearby Meriden.)

Having been specially made at the factory, the Tiger is in virtually the same spec in which it left Coventry. Quoting from the file we know it was fitted with a bronze 'head, special 8:1 pistons, a TT carburetor, a BTH racing magneto, large diameter megaphones, its foot-pegs were in the rear racing position, and the engine was specially tuned. Destined originally to contest either Class A or Class C Speed Records at Daytona, as well as the 1941 beach race, both projects were postponed. (On file is an earlier photo of the machine showing the girder forks, "taped" aerodynamically, per Rollie Free's 150 mph LSR Vincent at Bonneville!) Lowell Rettinger, however, rode the Triumph at Daytona in 1947, and went on to win the first national TT at Peoria the same year. The vendor also confirms that Rodenberg raced it at Daytona in 1948, and that Rettinger used the same machine to win a 5-mile national at Iowa City in 1951.

Today, authentically preserved, and running on gasoline, the Triumph has a purposeful image. The original, part-chromed fuel tank [in which the instruments are mounted] is missing some paint, but the black fenders and silver-lined rims are relatively unscathed. The un-silenced megaphones and the engine internals were of course all fitted to special factory order at Triumph in 1940. Given Turner's well-known aversion to most forms of competition – inasmuch he insisted such machines should be prepared away from the factory – this is an extraordinary story. According to its documentation the Triumph was assigned by Rodenberg in the mid-1980s, and has had just two owners since...a unique example of Triumph racing history!

The Spring Motorcycle Gathering 2010

Brooklands Museum will host The Spring Motorcycle Gathering.

Come and celebrate the anniversary of the first motorcycle race held at the historic motor racing circuit in April 1908.

A specially invited entry of machines with genuine Brooklands history and some historic record-breakers will be on display in the paddock and demonstrated on the famous test hill and Members' Banking. One make Club area Trade stands Push-bike challenge.

was raced at Brooklands by Pat Driscoll.

Bert Denley on the motorcycle and sidecar

Pat Driscoll acquired in 1929 the machine when Nigel Spring and Bert Denly moved to AJS. Pat used it until he was forced to give up racing by the Austin works team who considered it to be too dangerous. Although Driscoll achieved over 200 firsts in nine years of competition his main interest was in Record attempts and long distance racing. He became one of the outstanding tuner-riders of Norton in the 1920s and 30s and was a contracted Norton works rider. In 1930 he was awarded the British Motor Cycle Racing Club ‘Gold Star’ for lapping the Track at over 100 miles per hour.

Although Pat Driscoll preferred to use the Webb Heavyweight forks at Brooklands the machine is fitted with Druid ES forks. He won at least one sidecar race in 1931 using these forks as his sponsor, Bill Lacey, was contracted to use Druids. Most of the pictures show the original sprint tank but for long distance races the tank developed for the 1926 TT was used.

Op de mooie zondag van 18 april hebben Kobus & MGS

maar eens besloten de zinnen effe te verzetten.

Er is immers weer wat teveel gebeurd vandaar...

Dus dan maar een ritje te rijden ri. Amersfoort.

Echter daar aangekomen troffen wij geen D.V.M.A-Lid thuis.

Dus ging het dan maar binnendoor naar Voorthuizen

Chaletpark "De Hunnenberg" voor een koffiestop.

Eigenlijk was ik ook op zoek naar de boerencamping

De Kleine Stroet, waar ik het plan had nog wel eens

te gaan kamperen, en vervolgens vandaaruit

de hele Veluwe te gaan verkennen...maar ja.

Echter Voorthuizen is veeeeel meer dan een straat...

Dus dat plan heb ik maar effe laten varen...

Vervolgens stelde ik voor over de Veluwe

om nog effe via Putten,

Ermelo naar Harderwijk te rijden,

om een lekker visje te eten...

Harderwijk is een Hanzestad en ligt aan de rand van de Veluwe en aan het Wolderwijd, ongeveer op de helft tussen Zwolle en Amersfoort. Het is het regionale verzorgingscentrum voor de Noordwest-Veluwe.

Het was prachtig weer en de "brommers" reden goed.

En de magen begonnen immers te knorren....

Nou wij waren natuurlijk niet de enigen met dat idee.

Het was een drukte van jewelste

en veel (te) moderne motorfietsen te zien.

Hier een gecustomized Harley Davidson met

daarachter a real *"apehanger".

*Hoe kun je daar nu toch op blijven rijden?

Enfin wij lieten het ons allemaal goed smaken,

om vervolgens nog effe rond te kijken

en daarna weer op huis aan te gaan

ditmaal via de autoweg en het laatste stuk

vanaf Amersfoort maar weer binnendoor

naar Utrecht.

Kortom wij hebben weer effe genoten

Toch nog weer zo'n 160 km gereden

Ik heb nu eindelijk eens het verbruik gemeten:

1 ltr op 22,7 km.

De zijspanfabriek in Lower Walsall Street in Wolverhampton was eigendom van AJS, maar droeg de naam van oprichter Charles William Hayward
De productie vond plaats bij Willys-Overland.
Stevens is de merknaam van de inbouwmotoren en motorfietsen van de gebroeders Stevens. Deze naam veranderde later in AJS en weer terug in Stevens. Ook werden motorblokken onder de naam Ajax geproduceerd. Het bedrijf produceerde ook zijspannen, auto's, autobussen en radio's.

The basis of the AJS Model 16 MS was a long-stroke single overhead valve engine of 1935, the same as used in the wartime Matchless GL3. The orthodox but very tough push rod engine featured dry sump lubrication with an external oil tank. Flywheels were cast iron but were lightened for 1954. An all-alloy version of the engine appeared for competition models in 1950 with an alloy head for roadsters following in 1951. Further improvements to the model were made and despite the presence of the AMC "lightweight" single by 1960, sales of the old G3/Model 16 had actually increased by 1961 giving evidence of the loyalty to the long stroke formula.

Hij deed me wel wat : lekker compact motorfietsje.

Nu zullen we wel gaan uitvinden wat er nog aan moet gebeuren …

Het frame nr is gelijk aan bloknummer is 12123 :

Van wanneer is ie... kan jij dat nagaan ?

Als je nog pannier racks , gereedschapkastje een 8 inch lamp tegenkomt

denk even aan me ..

OK,

Gefeliciteerd!

Frame nummer klopt wel voor G3, is van een contract van 6000 stuks,

framenummers 7000-12999 bloknummers 40G3WO10226-16225,

dus denk dat het bloknummer veranderd is, kan niet hetzelfde zijn!

Moet ook 40/G3 prefix hebben.

Deliveries started 19-03-1941 waren bestemd voor midden oosten.

Heeft hij nu ribbelspatborden??

Pannier frames horen er echt niet op, kwamen pas in 1942!!!

staat ook niet op een G3, kijk maar naar die van opa Lex.

Achterrekje natuurlijk wel, zie foto.

The Matchless G3/L

was a motorcycle developed for use by the British Army during

the Second World War, when Matchless manufactured 80,000 G3

and G3/L models. The G3/L became one of the most popular motorcycles

used in the Second World War, as it was the first to replace the unforgiving 'girder' front forks with a new technology, 'teledraulic' suspension.

The Ministry of Defence continued to use the bikes into the 1960s.

Deze komt uit een order voor 6000 stuks van het engelse leger bestemd voor middle east

Is in eigendom van oud VMC – er die 'm 50 jaar in bezit heeft gehad.

Gekocht vorig jaar bij Dutch Lion: niet rijdend.

Na wat schoonmaken van contacten en banden oppompen liep ie …

Maar was moeilijk te starten en lopende te houden

Was wel legergroen maar er zat ook zwart en fel blauw onder de menie en legerverf.

Wat mistte : achterrekje, claxon, spanningsregelaar, electrische bedrading, nummerplaat- houder, 5 inch koplamp ivp 6 inch , achterlicht, 2^e gereedschap kistje, pannier racks.

Wat was er mis aan (hou je vast) :

Accubak door gerot
Magneet sloeg bij hoge temperatuur door : laten reviseren bij Japie (Arris Kramer)
Carburateur was uitgewoond (zat een duitse Amal gas schuif in) gereviseerd door Rob Schol IJmuiden

Dynamo had vol met water gestaan...

Big-end te veel speling : nieuwe drijfstang + big end bij Engelse motorwinkel
Zuiger 2e overmaat + cylinder opboren
Stuk van cylinder af : laten lassen door Aris Japie Kramer
Olie tank gescheurd : koper gesoldeerd

Lagers in blok en bak gaar : dus vervangen

Koppelingsplaten ingeslagen : vervangen
Wiellagers nauwelijks vet maar verder nog goed
Banden: slag erin en de andere versleten,
mooie nieuwe met blokprofiel bij Brammetje gekocht
Stuurdemper incompleet
Alle draadeinden met de 26 gangen per inch opgesneden, want die zijn allemaal gaar
Nummerplaathouder nagemaakt

Achterspatbord slecht gesoldeerd/rot op : nieuw stuk in gemaakt.
Etc etc

Joris aan het werk...

Dus alles afgeschuurd/danwel gestraald alles gespoten

met “Olive Darb” matte leger verf van de snuffeldump in utrecht.

(naast de pluimvee hal ) helaas 1 van de “stoot doppen” is daar kwijt geraakt

We schrijven zaterdag 10 april 2010 11.00 uur...

Veel zon..maar nog wat fris voor de tijd van het jaar...

thermo-kleding aan en gaaan met die banaan.
Velen waren geroepen.... voor een (1e) *korte rit:

Omdat anderen druk zijn met hun relaties te onderhouden,

of weer anderen hun huis van nieuwe interieur lente-kleuren

aan het voorzien waren, of de een zijn "brommerd" army-green aan het spuiten was, nog weer anderen lagen op een oor...

gingen wij vanuit het Groenekanse land er met een select groepje vandoor...

en wel naar "Wijk on the Wall" binnendoor...

Onderweg echter bleken een paar "snelle jongens" toch

weer te snel vooruit gereden, zodat zij een wel

vermoedelijke belangrijke afslag gemist hadden.
"HansHans" had immers de leiding.

Patrick en MGS hadden "ouderwets" hun

Triumphs Bonneville T120-R meegenomen.

Tja je moet je "brommer" toch weer eens de R-sporen kunnen geven...

Go... Rens...Go...zei ik nog en ook die Velocette ging weer als een speer!

Uiteindelijk na elk twee koffie/cappuchino

arriveerden de rest van het gezelschap dan ook...

Waren wij toch al bijna weer vertrokken?

Daarna ging het weer eens over de Lekdijk ri.

toch nog zo'n 80 km gereden...
tot de volgende keer maar weer...

A Harley Davidson hillclimber 1000 cc V-Twin 1928

Long before Supercross or Superbike was king,

the ultimate battleground for motorcycles in the U.S.
was hillclimb racing:one rider, one machine in
an all-out run to conquer a steep, gnarly hill.

Back in the sport’s heyday in the 1920s and ’30s, the largest factories,
Harley-Davidson, Excelsior and Indian, spared no expense to build
some of the trickest factory racers anyone had ever seen.

Victories on the hills meant sales on the showroom floor,
so it should come as no surprise that when Harley decided
to build its first true factory hillclimber,
the result was something special.

Last weekend I went to the Philip Island Classic races. This is a Australia vs. Briton, New Zealand, South Africa event. It is a great weekend...lots of classic and vintage bikes, a very casual event which means it is OK for the spectators to walk around the pits and the riders are happy to talk to everyone. We can get up close to the machines and some of the hero riders from many years ago. However this year there where not so many vintage bikes. I was thinking of you and trying to get some photos of motorcycles that the DVMA enthusiasts would like to see.

Here are as few that I found that might interest you.

Also the Batbike for your movie motorcycle set, we can't forget that one...

I want to draw that one one day.

Our summer is not as hot as last year when we had the fires but it was 49 degrees Celsius

at a place near us the other day. Man alive we could cook an egg on the car roof.

I hope all that you DVMA members are well and happy.

I check your website nearly every day.

Philip Island has a beautiful race track but the very strong winds off the ocean blows down the front straight and sometimes the older bikes struggle against this wind. The track is also too long for the old bikes. Many old machines suffer mechanical problems over the four days of racing. One racer told me that they only practice on the Friday because they do not want to wear out their machine before the race days.
